Veterans often have difficulty trying to figure out what they want to do full time in the next stage of their life. However, while you figure it out, you can get some job experience by taking a seasonal job. The following jobs are temporary, so they don’t require a long commitment while you figure out what you want to do full time.
Tutor
If you love working with kids, you may find that tutoring is a great fit for you. You’ll be able to pass on your knowledge to those that are struggling. Tutors tend to be in demand during the school year. This will allow you to have your summers free to explore other interests. Tutoring jobs tend to take place in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends, leaving your mornings open. You can offer tutoring services in a variety of places such as your own home, at the student’s home, or at the library. You can also choose to offer lessons digitally or in person.
Construction
Many veterans like to use their hands to build things. Construction jobs are a good fit in this case. These jobs are often seasonal, and they can last for weeks or months at a time. Peak season tends to be when the weather is warm. This may be a great job for you if you want to work in a fast-paced environment and if you like to work outside.
Pet Sitter
Pet owners often need a pet sitter to tend to their animals while they are on vacation, which is usually during the summer. Alternatively, they may need a sitter if they work long hours. This type of job will allow you to make your own schedule as there’s a lot of flexibility. This may be the perfect job for you if you love animals and don’t mind taking them for walks or cleaning up after them.
Retail
A lot of retail establishments need seasonal employees around the holidays. Job responsibilities can include stockers, cashiers, or customer service representatives. If you like people and prefer a job that allows you to work indoors, this type of seasonal job may be a good fit.
